Who we are

DevErrors (deverrors.com) is a free website with guides for fixing developer error messages. You can use it without an account. Questions about this policy go to contact@deverrors.com.

Analytics and cookies

DevErrors uses Google Analytics, a service from Google, to understand which pages and errors people look for. The Google Analytics script loads on every page of the site. It sets first-party cookies, including _ga and _ga_<ID>, which Google uses to tell visitors and sessions apart and which last up to two years by default. Google Analytics receives information such as the pages you visit, your IP address, your browser and device, your approximate location, and the search terms you type into the DevErrors search box. You can block or delete these cookies in your browser settings, use a content blocker, or install Google's opt-out add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Google describes how it uses this data at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Feedback votes

Error pages have a "helpful / not helpful" vote. A vote adds one to a counter on that page; the counter does not record who voted. Your browser remembers that you voted on that page in its local storage, so the question is not shown again. To stop abuse, the site uses a hashed form of your IP address as a short-lived rate-limit key in our cache (Upstash Redis), which normally expires after about a minute.

Search

When you search, your search terms are sent to our server to find matching guides. Search terms are part of the page address, so they also appear in our request logs. Results are kept in our cache, keyed by the search terms, for up to one minute and are not linked to you. Page views increase a per-guide view counter that is not linked to you.

Email

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever your message contains, and use them to reply to you.

Hosting and service providers

Service providers we use include:

  • Cloudflare hosts the site and its database, and processes your requests to deliver the pages. Our request logs in Cloudflare Workers Logs, used for security and debugging, are kept for up to seven days.
  • Upstash provides the cache used for search results and rate limiting.
  • Google provides Google Analytics.

When we publish or update guides, we notify search engines of the page addresses through IndexNow; no visitor information is sent.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser, clear the site's local storage, or use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on above. To ask about, correct or delete information we hold about you, email contact@deverrors.com. We do not sell personal information.

Changes

We may update this page and will change the date at the top when we do. Our Terms of Service are at /terms.
